How our day works, our rooms, and our out-of-school care.

We are a small, family nursery offering a welcoming, inclusive environment where every individual is valued. We have cared for Barton-upon-Humber families since 1995: over 30 years of a warm, home-from-home welcome for local children.

Our day nursery welcomes children aged 0 to 5 years, open Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 6:00pm. It runs all year round, except public holidays and one week at Christmas. Children learn through play, with plenty of time outdoors and for messy play. Hot meals and healthy snacks are provided every day.

Children move through three rooms as they grow, from our youngest babies to pre-schoolers getting ready for school.

Out-of-school care

We also offer before- and after-school care for children aged 5 to 11 years, including reception-age children (some still 4 when they start school). Sessions run before school 7:30am to 9:00am and after school 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Term time only (no holiday care).

Life at Rainbow Kindergarten

  • A baking tray of home-made dinosaur-footprint biscuits decorated with flaked almond claws.
  • Boxes of fresh fruit (peaches, nectarines, apples and bananas) ready for snack time.
  • Autumn pumpkin sun-catchers made from orange and yellow tissue paper displayed on a window.
  • An outdoor mud-play area with toy wheelbarrows, crates and a water wall against a wooden fence.
  • An outdoor learning area with wooden picnic benches and a tuff tray of logs and pumpkins.
  • An outdoor play area with a large rainbow painted on the fence and wooden balance beams on artificial grass.
  • A paved outdoor play yard with children's trikes and chalk-drawn roads.
  • An outdoor balance and obstacle course built from crates and wooden planks.
  • An Arctic small-world tuff tray with polar animal figures set in white foam.
  • A wooden sandpit filled with sand, moulds and coloured spades.
  • An outdoor nature table with clipboards, spotting sheets and magnifying glasses for a bug hunt.
